With a 1-way remote you press the button and hope. With a 2-way remote the vehicle answers, and the remote shows or signals that the engine started, the doors locked or the alarm armed.
That confirmation is worth the most when the car is out of sight: in a parking structure, across the office lot or on the far side of the house.
LED, LCD and color LCD
An LED remote lights up in patterns to show what the car did. An LCD remote shows icons and status. A color LCD remote shows the vehicle’s state in clear pictures. Higher-end 2-way remotes also tend to have more range.
Viper’s 2-way lineup includes the 5908V with a color LCD, the 5808V with LED, the 5308V and the 3308V with LCD, and several stand-alone 2-way remotes.
Range, honestly
Range numbers describe open air with nothing in the way. Concrete, steel, hills and radio noise cut them down. A 2-way remote helps because it tells you when the command did not get through.
