The brake pedal
Pressing the brake pedal is the most common shutdown. If someone gets into a running car without the key and steps on the brake, the engine stops.
The hood
A hood pin switch tells the system the hood is open. If it is, remote start refuses to run, or shuts down, so no one is near a running engine.
Gear, doors and parking brake
An automatic must be in park. A manual must be in neutral with the parking brake set. Opening a door while running may shut the system down on some setups.
Why they are tested
A switch that is not connected is a switch that does not protect anyone. We test each shutdown at the end of every install, and we show you how to test them yourself.
How to test them yourself
With the engine remote started, step on the brake pedal: the engine should stop. Start again and open the hood: it should stop. These are simple checks you can repeat once a season. If any of them does not behave, call us and stop using remote start until it is fixed.
