How smart keys complicate things
A smart key does not go into the ignition. The car checks that it is nearby and allows the start button to work. A remote start has to start the engine without the key being in the cabin, which means the immobilizer has to be satisfied another way.
That is the job of the interface or bypass module.
Digital systems help
Viper’s DS series has an integrated, programmable CAN interface that handles bypass and override on many compatible vehicles. The DS3 and DS4 families also support starting from the factory remote on compatible vehicles, by pressing lock three times.
Factory remote start from the OEM remote is vehicle-dependent. We tell you if your vehicle supports it.
Questions to ask
Which interface will you use, and is it programmed for my exact vehicle and trim? What happens to the factory key? What will not work after the install? Are there options my vehicle must have?
What to expect on install day
The installer identifies the vehicle, installs and programs the interface, connects the safety inputs and tests starting with the smart key in a safe location. You get a demonstration of how remote start behaves when the key is inside or outside the vehicle.
Quick answers
Will my smart key still work?
Yes. The smart key is unchanged.
Are there vehicles that cannot take remote start?
