Plug-in trackers
Plug into the diagnostic port under the dash. They install in seconds and can move between vehicles. The downside is that the port is easy to reach, so a thief can unplug it.
Hardwired trackers
Wired into vehicle power and hidden behind the dash or in a panel. They are harder to find and harder to remove, and they do not need the port.
Integrated trackers
A GPS module that is part of a remote start or security system, such as SmartStart Pro, shares the vehicle connection and gives you control and location in one app.
How to choose
If theft recovery is the goal, choose hardwired or integrated. If you just want temporary tracking, or tracking for a young driver, plug-in may be fine.
A quick way to choose
If you want it for a teen driver and may move it between cars, plug-in is fine. If you want it for recovery, hardwired or integrated is the better fit. If you also want remote start in the same app, look at SmartStart Pro.
Quick answers

A quality unit sips power. We check the draw after install.
Can I move a hardwired tracker?
It is possible but not as easy as a plug-in.
